AUGUSTA, Ga. — All week at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the talk has been about the Stanford Cardinal. With seven golfers in the field, including former Cardinal great and two-time national champion Rachel Heck, it was expected that many could contend for the win. Six of those seven Stanford golfers will have a chance after making the cut through two rounds, advancing to the final round of the 2025 ANWA on Saturday afternoon.
Wednesday was all about the historic round for Megha Ganne, but it was Andrea Revuelta who shined brightest on Thursday. The freshman from Spain is making her second ANWA appearance and made the cut for the second time with the best round of the day. She played a nearly clean round of golf, with just one bogey on 17, en route to a 6-under 66, her best round of the season and a mark that nobody eclipsed during competition on Thursday.
Revuelta had seven birdies during the second round, including back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13. This shot Revuelta all the up into a tie for third place overall, and just one stroke back of the lead heading into the final round. Revuelta is sitting at 8-under through two rounds of golf, her best start at ANWA.
Joining Revuelta at 8-under through two rounds is Ganne, who moved down the leaderboard after finishing her day with a 1-over 73. After holding even with part until 13, Ganne then bogeyed on consecutive holes to put herself two strokes behind the leaders. She made a great birdie putt on 18 to send herself into the final round with a bit of momentum and into a tie for third. Ganne made the cut for the third year in a row and is in prime position for her best finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur ever (2023 – ninth).
Another Stanford freshman is in contention through two rounds. Meja Örtengren is one of just three golfers in the entire field to post two rounds in the 60s, with a 3-under 69 on Thursday after a 68 on Wednesday. She is two strokes back of the lead in a tie for sixth place heading into the final round. She was nearly clean on the day, with a bogey on her 17th hole of the day standing as the lone blemish. Örtengren makes the cut to the final round for the first time since 2022 in her inaugural ANWA appearance.
Paula Martín Sampedro (3-under, T12), Nora Sundberg (2-under, T17), and Kelly Xu (1-under, T27) all advanced to the final round as well. Xu did so in dramatic fashion, needing to birdie on her final hole to get above the cut line, and she knocked down a lengthy birdie putt to do just that.
All competitors will take part in a practice round at Augusta National on Friday before the final round on Saturday, April 5. While several Stanford golfers are in contention for the win, it is worth noting that no golfer has ever won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur when trailing by two or more strokes heading into the final round. Golf Channel will provide coverage of the final round live.
