STANFORD, Calif. – Eight Cardinal have been named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans, the organization announced today.
As a team, Stanford (8) tied for the fifth-most honorees with Illinois (8), Missouri (8) and West Virginia (8). Northern Iowa led the nation with 12 recipients, followed by Nebraska (10), Penn (9) and South Dakota State (9).
Representing Stanford as individual Scholar All-Americans are sixth year Jaden Abas (psychology/sociology MA), fifth years Jason Miranda (human biology), Peter Ming (management science and engineering) and Nick Stemmet (science, technology and society), redshirt sophomore Hunter Garvin (science, technology and society), redshirt freshmen Tyler Knox and Lorenzo Norman, and true freshman Grigor Cholakyan.
Abas (149 pounds) and Stemmet (197 pounds) earn their fifth career honors, while Miranda (141 pounds) and Garvin (165 pounds) are repeat selections. Knox (133 pounds), Cholakyan (157 pounds), Norman (174) and Ming (285 pounds) are being recognized for the first time.
Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic Team contained 339 student-athletes from 77 different schools in 2024-25. To be eligible, wrestlers must meet one of the following criteria:
- All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling
- Top 8 and 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with 60 percent win record and 3.5 GPA
