USF Invitational Concludes Day One

Leigh Chien is tied for tenth after 36 holes of golf

SAN FRANCISCO — Leigh Chien and Caroline Sturdza began play at the USF Invitational on Monday, with the first 36 holes of golf commencing at the Olympic Club. Scores were up across the board, but both Chien and Sturdza were able to make improvements after their opening rounds.

Chien finds herself sitting in a tie for tenth after two rounds, showing improvement from rounds one to two. She opened her day just one stroke off the lead after knocking down a pair of birdies on the back nine where she began play. However, she would not birdie again her 33rd and 34th holes of the day. After finishing the first round outside of the top 15, Chien posted a 4-over 75 and a 2-over 73 and is seven strokes back of the lead.

Sturdza was able to shine during her second round of the day, improving from where she stood after the first round. While she did not record a birdie during second 18 holes of the day, she was able to post a 3-over 74, which was right around where most of the field was during the afternoon portion. Her 74 was tied for 17th in the second round.

The third round of the USF Invitational begins on Tuesday, April 1 with an 8:30 am shotgun start.
