Fourteen are All-Americans

Stanford swimming and diving third in number of All-Americans

STANFORD, Calif. – Fourteen Stanford men’s swimmers and divers earned All-America recognition from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Monday.

Stanford’s total was the third-highest among any school in the country.

Seven Cardinal earned first-team honors by placing among the top eight at the NCAA Championships that ended Saturday, in either individual events or relays. Those who placed ninth through 16th received second-team honors.

Stanford placed eighth as a team at the meet in Federal Way, Washington, scoring 216 points.

Jack Ryan was Stanford’s highest-placer, as the runner-up in 1-meter diving and third in 3-meter. Andrei Minakov was Stanford’s top-placing swimmer, with fourth in the 200-yard butterfly. Ron Polonsky was fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

Stanford’s top relay team was the 800 freestyle relay, which placed fifth. The team was Minakov, Henry McFadden, Polonsky, and Andres Dupont Cabrera.

For his collegiate career, Minakov earned 26 All-America honors, tying him with Brian Retterer (1991-95) for the most in Stanford history.

Second team Liam Custer (1,650 free), Andres Dupont Cabrera (400 FR), Kaihan Gu (200 FR, 400 FR, 200 MR), Gibson Holmes (200 fly), Daniel Li (200 breast), Henry McFadden (400 FR), Andrei Minakov (200 FR, 400 FR, 200 MR), Ron Polonsky (200 breast, 200 MR), Aaron Sequeira (100 back, 200 back, 200 MR), Jonathan Tan (200 FR), Avery Voss (200 FR), Josh Zuchowski (200 back).
