Stanford Swept on the Road at No. 2 UVA

Cardinal returns to action Friday, March 28 at No. 50 Miami

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 28 Stanford was swept by No. 2 Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday afternoon, 4-0.

The result was the Cardinal’s first loss via a sweep since dropping the NCAA semifinal in 2023 to NC State.

In doubles, the unranked pair of Caroline Driscoll and Valencia Xu picked up their first ranked win at No. 2 over No. 28 Martina Genis Salas and Annabelle Xu 6-4.

In singles, Valencia Xu was forced to retire at No. 3 for the second consecutive match. The Cardinal led on the three unfinished courts – Nos. 1, 2 and 5 – but the Cavaliers got wins and Nos. 4 and 6 to end it. Melodie Collard over Driscoll on court 4 was the decider.
